James R. “Bar” Clarke II

Prior to joining Bertram Educational Consultants, Bar Clarke was Headmaster of The Deck House School in Edgecomb, Maine from 2000 to 2004, and served as the school’s Assistant Headmaster from 1996 to 2000. The Deck House is one of the country’s leading college preparatory schools for special needs students.

Troubled teens and students with learning disabilities present unique challenges – and their parents are often required to make difficult educational decisions. Bar is one of the acknowledged experts in this field, having spent years as a trusted advisor to special needs students and their parents, providing invaluable direction and facilitating appropriate educational or treatment options. He is known and respected for his depth of experience, temperament and credibility.

Before he became Assistant Headmaster at The Deck House School, Bar was an English teacher and head of the Drama department at the Maru-Pula School in Gaborone, Botswana from 1993 to the end of 1995. He now serves as President, Board of Directors, American Friends of Maru-a-Pula School. Bar graduated from Marlboro College in 1989 with a degree in Liberal Arts.
